Nach dem Willkommen
[After the Welcome ] Work in progress
After the Welcome is a long-term documentary project exploring how Germany has changed in its attitudes, emotions, and public discourse around migration since 2015. Beginning with the symbolic moment of “Wir schaffen das!” (“We can do this!”), the project traces how hopes of openness have evolved into a landscape marked by polarization, conflicting narratives, and shifting ideas of belonging.
Over several years starting in the summer of 2025, Viktor Hübner will travel across urban centers and rural communities, engaging with people from diverse backgrounds to understand how personal experiences intersect with national debates.
Through photography, audio recordings, and field notes, he seeks to capture the subtle tensions, quiet solidarities, and unresolved questions that define this chapter of German society — not to judge or prescribe, but to observe and reflect the state of a society in transition. The resulting work aims to create a nuanced portrait of a nation searching for orientation—an attempt to listen closely to the voices that shape Germany’s future.
